Biography

BRENDA HICKEY is a comic artist and writer from Prince Edward Island, Canada. She’s illustrated comics for “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (IDW Publishing), Zag’s “Miraculous Chibi” (Papercutz), “Adventure Time” (Oni Press), OGN “Ward’s Valley” (with writer Bobby Curnow, Top Shelf), as well as written/illustrated two graphic novels for Netflix/Sanrio’s series “Aggretsuko” (Oni Press).

Brenda is married to fellow comic creator and all-around wonderful human Troy Little and together they began an independent publishing imprint for their creator-owned books. “Halls of the Turnip King” was Brenda’s debut graphic novel through the imprint, earning her Sequential Magazine’s Best Cartoonist award in 2020.

PEGAMOOSE PRESS was founded in 2019 by Troy Little and Brenda Hickey a means to publish high-quality editions of their creator-owned books. Their first book, Brenda’s “Halls of the Turnip King” was successfully Kickstarted and fulfilled within 2 months, setting their standards for quality and efficiency. Their second book, “Angora Napkin: The Golden McGuffin” debuted in the summer of 2020. In 2022, they collaborated on an experimental graphic novella called “Butterfly House”, which was nominated for the Sequential and Doug Wright Award.

In 2024, Pegamoose Press expanded its publishing world with “Orchard of the Tame”, and original graphic novel by Nick Cross and Marlo Meekins, which was a Booklist Starred Review and a NYPL Top 50 Graphic Novels for 2025.
